A new study found compound drought-heatwave events are rippling farther and lasting through the night, raising risks for southwestern North America.
Geophysical Research Letters Publication
A new publication in Geophysical Research Letters (Mondal and Vivoni, 2025) quantifies the characteristics of the hot drought of the summer of 2023 in the Southwest US and northern Mexico, finding interconnections between day and night and between regions that were previously unknown.
